Project (2) #8: Virginia, The Health Wagon

Onward to Virginia… Project runs from April 1 to May 15

This month, we are going to send hats/scarves/fingerless mitts/gloves to The Health Wagon in Southwest Virginia. The Health Wagon is a mobile medical care unit that serves an indigent and poverty stricken populace.

The Health Wagon strives to meet the unique challenges of health care delivery to the medically under-served and indigent in poverty-stricken areas of rural Appalachia. Through the use of this innovative mobile health unit, health care doors are opened to many needy individuals, families, and communities; doors that would have otherwise remained closed. The Health Wagon visits eleven sites in Southwest Virginia’s Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, and Wise counties on a weekly, biweekly, and monthly basis.

Items should be machine washable and of soft, wearable fibers. They can be sized from young child to adult.

There are male and female recipients, so we need some for boys/men and some for girls/women - color and style are your choice. All items will be delivered by The Health Wagon to people in need on their regular route.

Their website also has a wish list for basic hygiene items (personal care items). Please remember to include a Sharing Our Gifts tag on all items.

Items can be mailed to (Teresa provided two addresses, but either/both of them will get the items to her)-- Teresa Gardner, DNP,MSN,FNP-BC,FAANP Executive Director
